Prologis, Inc., the leader in logistics real estate, today announced it will build a 34,000 sq. m. build-to-suit distribution center for HEMA. The premises will be located at business park Het Klooster, in Nieuwegein, the Netherlands. Construction will begin in the first quarter of 2019 and is scheduled for completion in March 2020.

High standards
The distribution center will be conveniently situated on the A27 and will be developed to meet high standards, including a free height of 12.2 meters and LED lighting. The premises will also comply with the BREEAM ‘Very Good’ standard for sustainability performance. Solar panels will be installed on the building.

Purchase of lot
To build the center, Prologis has purchased a 5.7-hectare lot from Nieuwegein council. The contract was signed by Alderman for Economic Affairs, Ellie Eggengoor: “We are delighted that once again we can add an enterprise to Het Klooster. All the big lots have now been sold. This confirms the prominent role Nieuwegein plays as the logistics hotspot of the Netherlands.”

Expanding portfolio
Prologis owns several buildings at Prologis Park Nieuwegein. Sander Breugelmans, country manager Prologis Benelux, explains: “This development expands our portfolio in the Utrecht region, which is very important for national distribution and e-commerce, to around 137,000 square meters. It has been made possible by the intensive and constructive collaboration with our partners HEMA and the Nieuwegein council.”

Bas van der Kwaak, Manager Real Estate HEMA: “HEMA has the ambition to grow (international) and an extra distribution facility is needed for this. The new facility is located on business park Het Klooster in Nieuwegein and is situated near our current distribution center in Utrecht and is logistically seen as a perfect match. Therefore there will be a close cooperation between the two locations.”

In this transaction Prologis was advised by Savills and HEMA by 3stone Real Estate.

Prologis is a leading provider of logistics real estate in the Benelux, with approximately 2 million square meters of logistics and distribution space as of December 31, 2018.
