Vondel Hotels has officially opened the doors of Hotel Mercier in Rozenstraat 12 in Amsterdam, in the middle of the Jordaan. The luxurious design hotel with 46 rooms and a spacious restaurant are located in the former community center “Ons Huis” (Our House), founded by Helena Mercier. COC Amsterdam later established itself in this stately monumental building. After an intensive renovation of more than a year, in which authentic elements of the building have been restored, guests and the neighbors can now fully enjoy the special ambiance.

Straight-friendly hotel

Hotel Mercier is the second straight-friendly hotel that Vondel Hotels adds to its collection. In the beginning of the summer, straight-friendly Hotel Monastère Maastricht opened. Hotel Mercier makes the LGBTI guests feel at home. For example, there are no separate ladies’ and men’s toilets, the experience of the guest is taken into account on all levels and COC Amsterdam has its own place in the hotel.

Community House Our House

The authentic style of the building, in collaboration with interior designers Dax Rol and Joyce Urbanus from Nicemakers, has been extended to the luxurious interior of the hotel. Consider stately Art Nouveau, robust wooden furniture with a touch of velvet and rich prints. The neighborhood came together in the former community center to undertake activities together and learn from each other. The history can therefore be fully felt in the hotel. For example, the lobby has been reduced to the style of the old library and the restaurant features elements of the old gym. Bringing the neighborhood together, developing yourself and socializing together is the philosophy that the founder of “Ons Huis”, Helena Mercier, has put down and continues Hotel Mercier.

‘Our house’

‘Our House’, which is located in Hotel Mercier, will soon officially open its doors. “Our House” is focused on sustainable cooking with local seasonal products and serving delicious organic wines. Consider dishes such as steak sandwich, tasty cup with parsnip mousseline and a salad with Dutch Mozzarella. We cook according to the Dutch Cuisine concept.

Arjen van den Hof, owner of Vondel Hotels: “Hotel Mercier” and “Ons Huis ” have a wonderful story that we are bringing out again with the arrival of the hotel. I am happy that we continue to work closely with COC-Amsterdam and that they get their own place in the hotel, because they have always been closely connected to the building. I am very proud that we have created a fantastic luxury four-star hotel with all parties involved! ”

Unique art by designer Claes Iversen

Fashion designer Claes Iversen presents uniquely designed tapestries and is thus taking his first step in the interior design industry. In total Claes Iversen designed more than fifty different tapestries for the new Hotel Mercier, a number of which in collaboration with Frankly Amsterdam. These beautiful works of art can be found in public areas but also in all hotel rooms. In addition, there are also paintings and couture pieces by his hand in the hotel and he thereby places his emphatic stamp on the artistic decoration of the hotel.
